Last fall I told y'all I was working on a punch art book, and I was. Then Daddy died and I got off kilter. Yesterday's announcement retiring the small oval punch(sob!) made it clear to me that a book just isn't practical to do - when the punches are not available for purchase, who would buy a book?
And basically, half the punch art on this blog is useless without this punch. Never thought they would retire such a basic shape - but alas, Stampin' Up! is focused on stamping not punching - the company is not called "Punching Up!", now is it? (grin)
As disappointing as this is, we will all survive somehow.
Yes, life will go on without the small oval punch, and it will CERTAINLY go on without my "1/4 th written" book ever seeing the light of day.
I still get regular emails from some readers asking about this project, so I thought I'd let you ALL know to stop expecting it.
Now, if you don't already own them, go order those punches before they are all sold out!
Want a super easy way to make your book? Even if it's just for yourself?
ReplyDeleteGo to Blog2Print and make your own! You can select which posts to use and it's very affordable!
Hugs!
You should publish the 1/4 you have done!!! Anyway hopefully they will replace it with something similar. The little oval that was in one of the mini's is about the same size just 'fatter'! But as you said 'life goes on' so keep up the good work! Nancy
ReplyDeleteNo one else makes a small oval punch? BUMMER!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I did some research on the subject and EK Success makes a small oval punch that is only 1/8" larger in length and width. I'm going to tell my readers that if they miss out on the SU punch, they can get this instead. http://www.abctoysandcrafts.net/servlet/the-2125/EK-Success-Large-Oval/Detail
ReplyDeleteIt would be a fabulous book for those of us who purchased this punch just because of you :-) Not a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteOh Ellen, you're breaking my heart! So many of us have this punch already and for those who don't, can use an alternate or find another place to get it. As long as everyone is told ahead of time this punch is SU retired, then it's up to them whether they want to purchase it or not. I think you'd be surprised at how many would anyway. Maybe you should re-consider? :D
ReplyDeleteBut Ellen,,,,it wouldn't have to be only SU punches if you published it.....and there are some other places to buy punches LOL! I for one was totally looking forward to your book. Like another poster.....go ahead and use your daily posts to create the book....I would buy several copies so I can spread the addiction......LOL!

Never fear Ellen...other companies including EK Success that makes the SU punches still have ovals in a similar size. Publish and be damned as people are supposed to say to blackmailers! You know we'd all love you if you did. On the other hand if the project has lost its appeal for you there is no law saying you have to complete it right? I'm thinking you just need time to mourn the loss of the punches. Oh..and you could put a punch template in the back of the book...that way those without some punches can trace the shape and cut it out! Problem solved!
ReplyDeleteHugs and thanks for the update whichever way it goes!
Yes, I am one of those who had been hoping a book would be on the horizon someday.............just because SU punches are retiring, there are other companies who make a very similar punch (which will be close). My thoughts are: after all, it is SU benefit for their punches to be used but there are also other comapnies who make some of the same or close. I would love to have the book just for the inspiration and creative genius you are to come up with cuch great ideas. Even if you didn't publish but compiled them all into a disk, many of us would be ever so happy to have them all in one place 9and autographed cover!!!!). Your work is wonderful. Don't let retiring punches stop you from completing the mission!!!! maybe EK Success would even provide some sort of sponership for the disk. Anyway, whatever you decide - I love what you create!!!
ReplyDeletehugs,
P
I was sad too to see it was retiring, but giggle because I had just order one this past winter, phew!!!
ReplyDeleteAre you serious??? Is SU giving up all of their punches??? I love your work...I am recently back into "punching" and I gound your site a few weeks ago...your work is amazing. When I saw your list and projects on your site, I felt like I found a gold nugget. Please don't give up on punching...you are a natural!! I love it...I am just introducing my friends to punch art this week...it is NOT a dying art form!! Keep up the great work and thank you for all that you have done thus far!!
