A Moment of Silence for the Ornament Punch

And now we will have a moment of silence for the beloved ornament punch which has been retired by the powers that rule at Stampin' Up! headquarters ...

I will be wearing black today and possibly a black arm band for the rest of the month as I mourn the fact that you can't buy her anymore. I can't believe she is gone....

Making the acorn from the ornament punch is really what got this blog going as a punch art factory. Never fear - I only have one more day to yak about Get a Ton Done and then I'll get back to the dwarfs (and other punch stuff)

But I must share a punch item today using my beloved punch - before I move her from the place of honor in the top right hand desk drawer - to the plastic drawer of retired punches.

Yes, it's her... The Inspiration Fairy!
Notice the punch on her wand.

Your own Inspiration fairy may look different - but this is mine.  If you see her, whisper in her ear to fly to Utah and inspire those folks at headquarters to bring back the ornament punch next fall.

By the way, my retired punch drawer is still easy access.  I will not stop using the ornament punch - I already have another idea using it for Valentines.  I sure hope you bought yours!

  1. After discovering your amazing blog, I ordered the ornament punch just before the cut-off.
You know when you are a teen or young adult and you do not heed advice from your mother or favorite aunt....you pay for it later. Well, this time I listened to you Ellen (Super WISE SU! demonstrator). Thanks, Thanks, Thanks.

  4. Oh.... ok, so now that the ornament punch is hidden, (I'm betting my Top Note Die that it's coming back!) what would be your new #1 choice for a punch purchase? The butterfly? The new bird/wing/branch one? (Forget the name.. :) )

  5. Cute post, Ellen. I ordered the ornament punch as soon as I saw it however, you did convince me to order the modern label punch. Can't wait to see what you're up to next!

  6. Well let' see....#1 choice for punch purchase....?

You need all the circles and ovals (including the scallops) and the word window without question. And Heart to Heart!

Butterfly and Snowflake are my next essential punches (as seen on the sidebar of the blog)

I suspect the new Two Step Bird and small heart are the next ones I'd recommend but honestly - I NEED all of them. Full Heart is important and the stars come in handy too.

The photo corners and arrows don't find their way into too many of my projects except as photo corners and arrows. Maybe I should work on that?

And thanks ladies for letting me know you love the ornament punch too!...

    sniff snuffle.... sigh....

  7. Yes, we all bought the ornament punch and thank goodness we did. If I hadn't and had then seen this inspiration fairy, I would have been very very sad. I love fairies and she is just adorable. She needs to come to my house soon, I'm having major problems with the ol' mojo.
Have a great day, even if you're wearing black to mourn the ornament punch.

    Hugs,

  8. Hey Ellen,

I tried to send a (HUGE) email, just not sure if it made it to your inbox.... I know the files are crazy big. :) Just let me know if you receive it...

  9. Difficult to understand why such a popular item was eliminated. Look at all the people who ordered it before it was gone!

Looking forward to the next dwarf! Is there a Snow White in the future?

  11. OK, I've now had my daily dose of punch art! I always have to visit to see what you've made NOW. Love the fairy. And I agree with you---it is a totally sad day when we can no long buy and demo the ornament punch. Our only hope is that SU will put it in the next "big catalog" in July. Thanks for all the great things you've shared with us using that punch!!!
    Smiles, Laura

  13. Called Demo Support just now to ask if they are going to keep it for the new catty. She laughed because someone else had just called asking the same thing. She checked with a supervisor and they are considering keeping the ornament punch for the new catty. Told her I would send all demos her way asking for the punch to be saved. We'll keep our eyeballs crossed for you, Ellen!!

  16. You are too funny. I love your inspiration fairy. I may need to put my own in my craft closet to watch over me. I am in mourning for the Autumn Splendor DSP. I will send my request to Utah. Maybe the fairy can carry them there.

  17. I just found your blog yesteday. IT'S GREAT! I love punch art.

On a side note--do you honestly think Stampin' UP! will retire, forever, this wonderful punch? I don't! I bet it shows back up in the new Idea Book & Catalog in July. Hold on to that punch. I'm willing to bet on it. This punch was a big seller. They tend to keep what sells. "It'll be back!"

Keep up the wonderful punch creations!

  18. Hi Ellen
I loooove your punchy blog - full of inspiration and giggles. I am sorry that you are losing the ornament punch but I am hoping that us stampers in Australia might get it in our April catalogue. Do you know how hard it is to keep drooling over all what can be done but not have the tools? You are now getting the 2 step birdie punch and, sigh, we are still watching all the creations. Patience is a virtue but it gets really difficult at times.

  19. I love your website!
I too am a Stampin Up Demo...where did you see that they were retiring the punch? I can't find it anywhere! Could you please point me in the right direction?

    Thank you!
    Heather

  20. Heather - it is not officially retired but since it was only available in the holiday mini - no one can buy it NOW. And there is no guarantee for the future.

Hopefully it will reappear in the next BIG catty - I have sent in my email requesting it. Can't hurt for all of us to ask!

  21. I also came to rely on this punch. However, I would be very surprised if the punch doesn't make it into the new catalog that comes out in July. 99% of the accessories that are featured in a mini catalog always make the new big catalog. We can all hope so anyway. Love your ideas with ornaments. I bought 2 in case one of mine broke.
