Random Woman

Sometimes you have some smart or snarky sentiment but no image to coordinate.  This is the type project/card that I like to use a "random woman" on.  So here is a random woman punch art

The hair was inspired by some of the "dos" from the 60s as I was watching DARK SHADOWS on Netflix.  Hysterical - the special effects are atrocious, the phones are rotary dial and you get an AWESOME idea of the 60s fashions.  Unfortunately, I've finished all the instant watch so I'll have to wait for them to mail the discs if I want to find out what happens to Barnabas Collins and the rest of the Collins family (imagine spooky music here)

I knew it!  I knew I'd get some of you "volunteer types" to relate.

I'm back working in my scrapbooks and I'll use Edna's quote as I scrap about my over volunteering days. 

Not that I was a fashion designer for superheroes (puh-lease, the seams would come undone before the the first villain showed his face!)  But  "I'll do it" was my theme song for many years - accompanied by a raised hand and an eager grin.  (I assure you, those days are gone) 

Now I offer free seminars where I have ladies stand in front of the mirror and practice saying "No, I can't help you this time".   I have an entire pep talk ready to roll at a moments notice.  I'm pretty sure it has brought a few ladies back from the edge of insanity.

Of course with Edna's quote - we MUST have the darling lady herself...

Just like the fashion designers in movies (and maybe real life, who knows?) Edna is dressed in all black - which might make seeing her "parts" a little difficult.  Sorry.  Hopefully between the picture and the parts list you can figure it out.

Head - ornament - rounded the chin just a little bit with scissors

Hair - wide oval parts and word window for bangs - if part of your oval sticks out above the bangs just trim it off straight

Nose - circle itty bitty punch pack

Eyes - circle itty bitty punch pack trimmed on bottom, marker for black parts

Glasses - 3/4 inch circle around 1/2 inch circle hole - make a spare and use just a tiny snip for the nose bridge

Lips - circle itty bitty punch pact at the end of a modern label HOLE  - I did her lips in perfect plum and used my finger to apply just a little perfect plum ink on her check

Neck - word window

Body - large oval snipped with a circle at neckline

Skirt - word windows  - 1 full size -3 progressively shortened by re-punching

Pink part - narrow heart to heart next to same hole

Arms - word window folded over at elbow

Legs - modern label trimmed from middle bump on an angle (both sides) - folded over at ankle to make feet
Hands - small heart cut in half - then I cut a little notch to distinguish her thumbs

You could emboss black on the black of her dress to make it more "visible".  The Disney character Edna has lots of texture on her sleeves - I left that off since I think her "face" makes the character and the clothes are secondary (plus I'm a bit on the lazy side)



Wrestler

I have lost track of all the emails requesting a punched wrestler.  I know there have been at least four and I didn't offer these ladies much hope - I really didn't expect to ever figure this one out.

I understand the need for wrestling items. College girl went to her high school homecoming with a wrestler during her Senior year - and down here, in the 'Land of Football', homecoming mums for the girls are the size of basketballs and are approximately the same weight as a large dictionary - personalized with names of the couple and their activities.  The boys wear normal size mums on garters on their arms but they still have to have lots of ribbons and 'stuff' dangling down.

I had to create a mum for this kid (a wrestler) and searched high and low for wrestling items to put on it. Wound up focusing on his other interests because marketers have not yet realized the needs of those who love high school wrestlers.

This probably won't help you with your football floral needs, but might help you with scrapbooks and cards...

These parts are almost the same as Spider-man:
Body - full heart with wide oval at shoulders
Arms - large oval, small ovals
Hands - modern label shortened by small oval - slot thumbs
Legs - large oval, small oval
Boot - Full heart trimmed (heck, I cut so much you might as well just free hand them)

Changes to make him a wrestler:
I switched the upper arms to small ovals (high school - not quite as MANLY yet)
made the boots shorter
gave him a shirt - wide oval punched with small oval for neck and arm holes
gave him shorts  - large oval trimmed over the flesh colored large oval
gave him  - two slot thumbs with fist position (no need for spider webs coming out)
gave him - Stefen Brock (male demo) head
(Stefan didn't know what he started when he sent me that photo and request)

If you aren't a regular reader - the Stefen head is the ornament punch, scallop oval trimmed with star point for hair,word window ears, slot eyebrows, standard hole punch eyes, 1/2 circle trimmed nose, word window neck

You can add wrestling headgear if you want accuracy - but I decided he looks better without it.

Third Lady Bowler

Just so you'll have a "spare" ...(groan)

Hair - wide oval bee hive, 1.75 circle bangs - cut then snipped with small star
Head band - 1.75 circle offset from 1.75 hole
Head - beloved ornament
Ears - word window
Earrings - standard hole punch around smallest crop-a-dile hole
Eyes - small heart, standard hole punch - make sure white is showing around the black if you want the "surprised" happy look
Nose - standard hole punch
Mouth - small oval offset from large oval hole
Tongue - small oval punched with heart to heart
Neck - word window
Chest - small oval
Shirt - butterfly, wide oval trimmed flat at bottom
Sleeves - small ovals
Her right arm (your left) word window, flower trio (trimmed)

My fave was the fat lady.  She makes me grin EVERYTIME I look at her.

Time for Round Ball

When I was poking around Goggle looking for baseball poses I came upon basketball inspiration. 

You knew the Inspiration Fairy checks into the Google Hotel for rest and relaxation, didn't you? That is where I find her when she isn't hovering over my punch drawer. If you need her, check there. She is often on the clip-art floor or in the cartoon suite.

Anyway, back to basketball...

Obviously a younger player (not a pro) since he is mainly feet (not tattooed muscle). "Mainly feet" is a pretty good description of a lot of young teen boys I think.  Except in real life, he would have much fancier and expensive shoes with some famous logo on them.

I almost did his hair in Apricot Appeal so I could give him a wee moustache and call it apricot fuzz instead of peach fuzz but I figured telling you all that was as good a giggle as actually doing it.

I did have a basketball request from Janice for her grandson so maybe this will get her started.  Janice, if your grandson is younger leave the eyebrows off - those seemed to age him a few years.

Only part that might not be clear is the shirt - wide oval - cut almost in half - trimmed three times with the word window for neck and both arm holes.  And the hair is just like Stephen Brock - male demo.  And you will notice that some of the word windows were shortened by reinserting them and punching again.

I tried to make a basketball by drawing the lines on a circle but it was much easier to use the "Just Basketball" stamp.  Stamped in pumpkin pie on white - sponged really rust around the edges.

Gale Foster emailed that she needs a girl basketball player so I'll be trying that for tomorrow's post.  I know the pose I want to use.  I guess you will find out tomorrow if I was successful with it or not.

Career Change

Sometimes it is bad to make requests.  Stefan Brock got himself immortalized as a male stamper but then he got himself decapitated into a career change....

I beheaded him so I could use it when Robbe requested help with a Dentist...

I hope that wasn't too painful Stefan.  At least you know what you would look like if you want to be a Dentist for Halloween next year.

Lynn Pratt made a Lady Stamper (based on my UPS guy) - Love her project - FABULOUS idea!  When you see it you will want to make one RIGHT THEN   (I want the Lady Stamper shoes! Not so much the hips...)

During my punch time Sunday afternoon, I made this Male Stamper (using Lynn's apron and a request from Stefen Brock)

Stefen Brock is a Stampin' Up! demo and I think he was feeling that the 'SU guys' were being left out.  This is loosely based on the photo I had him send me.  I 'borrowed' Tess's punch from the new Totally Tess set in the spring mini catalog for paper "Stefen" to use.

If you read the UPS guy and Lynn's Lady Stamper posts, I think you can figure out how I made him.  Changes are Modern label punch for his khaki (kraft) pants - trimmed off the bumps at the bottom.  His spiky hair is a part of the scallop oval with the tip of the small star used on the scallops.   His nose is like Curly's in the Three Stooges post.  Eyes are standard hole punch.  Facial hair was sponged on.

Now I realize not that many of you have need of a "male stamper" but put a white apron and a knife in his hand and you have a butcher.  Or put an orange apron and a tool in his hand and you have a Home Depot guy.  Or give him another apron and some tongs and make him your husband at the grill.  Use your imagination. 

Someone send me a photo where they turned the UPS guy into a mechanic for a GREAT card for their son.  I'm trying desperately to find where I saved it!  Double drats and darn it, I appear to have hidden it from myself.

When I find it, I will ask her if I can share it.  Dear Mechanic's Mama, if it is OK for me to post the photo of the card, would you please share it again with the old crazy blogger who misplaced it?  Thanks!

And yes, this uses the ornament punch which is not available at this time.  If you want it, contact SU and request that they put it in the next catalog.  It can't hurt to ask.

Thanks for all your positive thoughts on the health front.  A little good news is trickling in.  And dear sweet hubby is taking night nurse duty tonight.  I think I am "off duty" until 8ish tomorrow morning.  Yeah!

A Moment of Silence for the Ornament Punch

And now we will have a moment of silence for the beloved ornament punch which has been retired by the powers that rule at Stampin' Up! headquarters ...









I will be wearing black today and possibly a black arm band for the rest of the month as I mourn the fact that you can't buy her anymore. I can't believe she is gone....

Making the acorn from the ornament punch is really what got this blog going as a punch art factory. Never fear - I only have one more day to yak about Get a Ton Done and then I'll get back to the dwarfs (and other punch stuff)

But I must share a punch item today using my beloved punch - before I move her from the place of honor in the top right hand desk drawer - to the plastic drawer of retired punches.

Yes, it's her... The Inspiration Fairy!

Your own Inspiration fairy may look different - but this is mine.  If you see her, whisper in her ear to fly to Utah and inspire those folks at headquarters to bring back the ornament punch next fall.

By the way, my retired punch drawer is still easy access.  I will not stop using the ornament punch - I already have another idea using it for Valentines.  I sure hope you bought yours!

Winter Girl

The Inspiration Fairy and I decided that we needed a Winter Girl since we did a boy yesterday.  Shirt and Jacket and Face are very similar - don't you just love the puffy jackets? 

Her skirt is the scallop square punch trimmed from the middle of the corner scallops. 

The hair is the scallop oval.  (actually, several of them)

The tights are the word window - stamped with the new solid stripe stamp (available Jan 5).   You might remember that is the same stamp I used to make the boy's plaid jacket.  I think this is going to be a squatter stamp.  A squatter stamp is the one that takes up residence on your desk and never gets put away.   My recommendation?  Put this stamp on your first order of the new year.  It isn't very expensive and I am going to MAKE you NEED it before we are all said and done.

The background of the Winter Girl Tag is the new Dot,Dot,Dot stamp - I think you might need it too so just go ahead and order it with the striped one.

Let's look at the Winter Kids together.  Wouldn't they be cute off the tags and on a scrapbook page?

P.S. Time is running out to order your ornament punch to make these faces!!!!  Don't think unavailability will make me quit using it!  If you don't like what I've made so far, I will keep going until you just can't stand it.  But then, you might not be able to find one.  Get your ornament punch before Jan. 4th when the mini catalog ends.

Winter Guy, Santa and Ellen

I live in a large suburb of Dallas that still has quite a bit of "little town" atmosphere.  Our local arts group puts on great live productions at the Uptown Theater - the old movie house on Main Street that has been renovated and reopened.  Thursday night my friend Liz and I went to see one of our favorite kiddos, Michael, on the opening night production of Miracle on 34th Street.  Dang, he was good and his mama, Amy, had found him the best (most authentic) costume for his role as Jake - a speaking part as he sat on Santa's lap. 

Of course I couldn't take photos during the show, and Michael pulled the hat with the ear flaps off as soon as he possibly could, but I did get a photo of him autographing Liz's program.  He has been dancing publicly since age 3 where he could be seen  performing to Greased Lightening (music in his mind, moves from John Travolta) during lulls in the action of his soccer games.  His Mom is the coach and she eventually taught him to dance only on the sidelines not on the field during the game.  Oh this kid is CUTE!

This is my winter guy inspired by Michael and his costume...

This uses a couple of new things from the Occasions mini catalog that will be available January 5.  One is the heart punch for the whites of the eyes.  Regular readers are used to seeing me use the smallest heart in the heart to heart punch for this - but the new Small Heart punch is even better for this - it gives you just a little more white showing so you can put the black part of the eye in different places and get more 'expression'.

The other new item I used is the solid stripes stamp which will be sold as a single stamp (not in a set).  It is just what the name says - solid stripes.  For this jacket I wanted a subtle plaid effect so I stamped bravo burgundy onto red with this new stripe stamp but I stamped it again with the stripes running the opposite direction.  Ummmm,  I think you will be seeing me use this stamp and this punch a lot!

Wide oval punched on the edge of the paper to get flat bottom - then I just snipped up both sides with scissors to get the angle you see here

Flaps are small ovals punched on the edge of the paper to get flat "inside" edge. 

Hat brim is small oval snipped with scissors (actually I just picked up a random scrap from my desk but you might not have the same mess I do)  I put the brim on a bit of dimensional to adhere it.

Sponging info - I am no artist so I can't tell you how to sponge and highlight your pieces the "right way".  My sponging is usually so you can distinguish one piece from another  - like seeing the sleeves against the plaid jacket.  I usually just go around the whole item - but on these sleeves I decided the inside of the elbow would be darker. I guess it works - but however you add sponging, it will give your punched characters more depth so play with it and when you figure out the "right" way please come back and teach me!

At the Miracle on 34th production you could have your picture taken with Santa so....here I am with one of my best punch characters in real life!

See my new bifocals? I like 'in your face' readers so I got 'in your face' glasses too. Not so sure I like how I look with them but I sure like how I SEE with them.

Santa Series Number 14 - UPS Man is Santa throughout the Year

Not really Santa, but if you are a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator this really is the one who delivers your TOYS!

Brenda Workman sent me an email Saturday night and she started it with a bunch of flattery which I dearly love and enjoy way too much!  I won't make you read that part, but she finished with this  "I am not sure if you’re interested in any more ideas, but I would love to see a UPS man. They help Santa this time of year you know…(and bring our Stampin Up supplies!)   I admit, I am biased….I work at UPS and love this time of year.   A few of my drivers have “brown” Santa hats they wear on Christmas Eve."

Well,...... you know I'm not going to pass up an awesome suggestion like that!  Brenda is absolutely correct.  Stampin' Up! sends all our goodies by UPS and it feels like Christmas when I tear into those boxes that my dear sweet UPS man brings.  I LOVE the brown Santa Hat idea - wish they would wear them the entire month of December!

This was modeled (kinda) after my own UPS man.  He is a blond and usually wears his shorts.  He calls our dog "Killer" since the foolish mutt barks like a maniac at the sound of UPS brakes.  My dog is very smart but I just can't get him convinced that the UPS man is our FAVORITE delivery man.

Do you need a tutorial?  Naw, surely you don't.  How about just giving you a list of punches?

Of course this will be on a card for my UPS man tomorrow as he brings yet another box to my door.  I may not see him again before Christmas (tear) so I have to get it done now!

Thanks Brenda for the idea.  I hope you enjoy this little guy!  Will you please hug a few UPS drivers for me today?  (But don't get in any sexual harassment trouble doing that, OK?)  They have to work so hard this time of year.

Santa Series Number 6 - Mrs. Claus

OK not technically a Santa but we know Mrs. Claus plays a huge role in getting Santa ready for his big Christmas Eve gig...

Here she is serving cookies to keep his belly nice and round.  I bet someone out there can use her on a recipe layout this Christmas.  I think before I use her on a project I'll add some holly berries to her hat - it looks a little plain to me.  This is the only day on the blog for Mrs. Claus - I'm not totally crazy about her so if you create a better version please show me!

Here is the original Mrs. Claus I made, different head, slightly different hair, different apron. 

Feel free to mix and match your punch parts.  Remember no tutorials during this series - look close - you can figure it out!

Back to Pointy Chins - Pilgrim Woman

It has been a little while since I have done a pointy chin person (but there are plenty more coming!) so today I give you Pilgrim Woman - anonymously suggested.

Face - ornament in blush blossom

Nose - 1/2 inch circle in blush blossom

Eyes - large heart Heart to Heart (in white, trimmed), standard hole punch in black (and I forgot her white gel pen highlight in her eye - she just isn't complete, sorry)

Body - ornament in Basic Gray

Skirt - 2 1/2 inch circle (Circle Scissor Plus) in Basic Gray cut off bottom

Apron - 1.75 circle punch re-punched with scallop border, strip of white for waist band

Collar - 1 3/8 circle, cut

Arms - Basic Gray - small oval, toss the oval keep the hole, punch around hole with wide oval

Shoes - Butterfly punch cut in half

Hat - 1 3/8 circle in black.  In white punch part of a 1.75 circle - toss the part - keep the hole.  Punch the wide oval around the hole so you just get the curved strip for her hat front.

Chins part 5 - Bring in the clown

Oh yes, I take reader requests and suggestions  - we can't always depend on that Inspiration Fairy - she can be quite fickle.

After I posted the hobo and the leprechaun, Gaby and Carey and Carolyn and Jenifer and maybe others suggested that I bring in the clowns. (And no Jenifer, I have no plans at this time to do the 7 dwarfs)

I don't know if this is exactly what these ladies pictured but it is what came out my fingers...

All SU punches except the body - and that is about a 2.5 inch circle using the circle scissor plus.

I think you see these punches but here is the list just in case

feet - large oval

arms - small oval

cuff - scallop oval (just a tiny bit)

hands - heart to heart - trimmed

collar - scallop circle

buttons - flower trio

head - ornament punch - "handle" trimmed off

ears - word window

hair - scallop oval (punched twice to get small pieces)

eyes - heart to heart, standard hole punch

nose - 1/2 circle

white make up - heart to heart

eyebrows and smile - heart to heart

I am really proud of my eyebrows on this one  - all I did was punch the large heart from heart to heart - toss the heart, keep the hole - then punch again around the hole with the same punch just offsetting the punch to get a "sliver" at the top of the heart - turn this "sliver" upside down and tah-dah!  You have cool eyebrows!

I did the same thing using the bottom portion of the heart for his "smile" but it didn't get me as excited.

I didn't sponge or shade anything on this clown - he would be even cuter if you take the time to fancy him up a bit.  

Chins part 4 - Man in Green and Red

I'm back for yet another take on the "chin men".   Green but not a Leprechaun - it's an Elf.

You can go back to the earlier "chins" posts if you need to be refreshed on the basic "how-to" for these pointy chin men.  He is very similar to the Pilgrim but there are some differences besides color choices.

What is different about the elf? 

His ears - not really pointed but heading that way with the heart to heart punch. (you could use part of the 5 petal punch and get POINTED ears - I didn't think about it until after I was done)
His shoes - 1/2 a butterfly punch then I punched the 1/2 circle punch into it so the toe would looked like it was curled up.
His collar was done with a section of the scallop circle
His hat edge is the border scallop - then I stuck that in the word window
His BIG hat is free hand (obviously) - you can make it much smaller - whatever fits your project
His hat fluffy is Boho Blossoms - all three of them stacked

Wouldn't he be cute with stripes on his socks?  Or you could texture that big old hat with some of the texture plates - I can think of lots of ways to "improve" him but I'm not going to try them until I make him again for an actual project - these chin men I've been showing are just mock-ups to get the basic design down.
I hope you are finding ideas that you can use during these days of "Chin Men".

Chins part 3 - Pilgrim Man (by request)

So far, our chin men have included a Hobo, Conan and a Leprechaun from the same basic pointy face and body. 

Today I am changing the body a little bit to meet a reader's request.  Beth Saremba asked me if I would do a full pilgrim man (the mouse in the hat wasn't what she needed) so, ever desperate to please - I did.

his body is the 1 3/4 circle
his thighs are the small oval punch
his calves are the word window in white
his shoes are half a butterfly trimmed just a tiny bit.
his hat brim looks like a word window but it is actually longer

• To make the longer hat brim - cut a strip 3/8 inch wide with your paper trimmer - insert just the end into the word window (feed from the punch opening into the slit) -  round one end ,then do it again to round the other end. 

his buckle on hat and shoes is just like the chain link found here
his collar,cuffs, and top of his hat are all freehand

Beth, I hope this helps you out. 

Chins part 2 - Man in Green

My brain (odd thing that it is) finished Conan and was at a fork in the road.  I was heading towards other late night TV hosts OR other Irish men.... Jay Leno or Leprechauns?  Who knows - Jay Leno may eventually be immortalized in punches but his chin is certainly not pointy so I took the easy route and went GREEN.

I know it isn't St. Patrick's Day, so what am I doing showing you a leprechaun this time of year?  It is always a good time to tell someone that you are LUCKY to be their friend, know them, love them, be married to them, etc.  So stick him on a card or a scrapbook page with some four leaf clovers and announce just how lucky you are.

Very similar to yesterday's chin men - but he has butterfly punch shoes (trimmed), with a slot and hole punch accent, a bowler hat (circle and word window) with 4 hearts as a clover (heart to heart).  His nose is the 1/2 inch circle and his hair is the scallop oval - punched twice to get the smaller pieces. 

He also looks good without the hat if you trim off the "handle" of the ornament - then you have an almost bald leprechaun.  Pretty cute!

Chins part 1 - Men in Black

Yesterday as I was working on the witch, I picked up the wrong sponge to add depth on the edges of her face.  I left too dark a shadow so I set it aside - then that "oops" turned into this:

Why would you need a hobo?  Maybe that is your Halloween costume?  Maybe you have stories to scrap from the depression 1930s or recession 2008?  I don't know - but I just HAD to make him once the idea came into my head. I think my stamp area being clean may have left the Inspiration Fairy just a little disoriented.

But then, a thin guy in a suit with a pointed chin brought Conan O'Brian to mind.  I had to get him on paper so I could get him out of my brain (I'm more of a Jay Leno girl),  so I made this guy...

Why do you need a Conan?  Well, you might have gone to his show (Jenifer)  or he might be the main thing your son wanted to see when you went to New York (Jenifer) or you might have a secret crush on him (?)  or you might want to do a BOM page about your sense of humor.  My job is to follow the I-Fairy's lead, what you do with these ideas is your problem.

I will probably wind up changing him slightly and using him as my hubby - a thin man who wears a suit but different hair. (Way different)

• Conan's hair is the curly label punch (cut) with the 1 inch punch  punched into it - near his face. 
• Shoes are biggest heart from Heart to Heart punch (trimmed) 
• Arms and legs are small oval hole with wide oval punched around it. 
• Shirt collar is smallest heart in Heart to Heart punch (2).
• Tie is the smallest arrow in My Way punch (trimmed). 
• Body is wide oval. 

Isn't it a shame that poor Conan has to wear the same shoes as the hobo?  Maybe it is time for some shopping.

Avoid this blog for a couple of days if you don't like the pointy chin men - I have at least two more ideas coming up. Unlike these, the next two might actually be useful.  You are getting them in the order I "thunk" them up - not in order of usefulness.

A girl with a reputation...

I am a girl with a reputation ......

I've gotten credit a couple of times now for things I didn't do.  Most recently, Keersten Jensen thought I was the one that came up with the cute little elf from the ornament punch.  That was  Andrea Walford  originally and  the Country Rose (splitcoast name) who added a body.  Now that is the kind of reputation you dream about having.  Woo hoo, I was flattered!                  . 

But what Keersten really wanted was for me to try out an idea she had - to use the pointed end of the ornament punch as a witch hat (like the point of the elf hat) - Great Idea!   So as soon as I had a free minute I pulled out the punches and tried it.  (ahem, I had to try it for her - she hasn't bought the ornament punch yet - have you?) 

Sadly, I was unable to make it work to my satisfaction,

However, the effort resulted in.....

I turned the pointed end around and made it into her pointy chin!  And I'm very happy with this one so THANKS to Keersten for getting me thinking witchy thoughts.  Sorry I couldn't make the hat work - why don't you buy that punch and figure it out for me?  hummmmm?
